Orion Township Public Library Building Fully Reopens in Time for Summer Reading Kickoff Event

After a month of changes in service, the Main Branch of the Orion Township Public Library building is fully back open to the public. Out of an abundance of caution, the library had been partially closed in order to clean the building and library materials since a small fire took place on May 4, 2024. Through several stages of reopening, the library is finally able to allow patrons back in to browse the book stacks and utilize the many offered services. 

The first big event to take place with the reopening of the building is the Summer Reading Kickoff: Adventure Begins at Your Library, where community members will get to enjoy circus performers strolling the library grounds, giant inflatable games, crafts, henna and facepainting, and so much more. The Summer Reading Kickoff begins the Summer Reading Program, a yearly initiative to combat the summer slide that occurs when students go on summer break and are not actively reading or growing their intellect like they would in school. The Summer Reading Program is not only for kids, but for teens, adults, and seniors as well with their own respective reading challenges and prizes to win. Those who sign up for the Summer Reading Program at the event or during kickoff weekend will be entered to win a special family pack of tickets to a Detroit Tigers game! 

Take the youth BINGO adventure as you collect spaces logging reading and participating in library related activities. All finishers will earn prizes, a free book, and a chance to win a showcase prize.  

Teen explorers will win free books and gift cards for participating in OTPL’s teen BINGO adventures and challenges. Completing one book opens registration for the Teen Summer Reading Party at Water Warrior Island!   

Adults get to participate in weekly reading adventures and library challenges to win prizes throughout the summer by logging your activities in our Beanstack reading tracker. Win free books, enter weekly raffles for gift cards, or a chance to win a brand-new Kobo eReader!  

Adventure begins for seniors at the Orion Center Branch this summer! Participate in weekly challenges to win prizes throughout the summer by logging your reading and activities on a reading log. Complete the challenge to be entered into the Grand Prize drawing! 

Celebrate the reopening of the library and the start of summer all at once on Saturday, June 8 from 11am-1pm. The Main Branch of the Orion Township Public Library is now fully open and back to regular hours: Monday-Thursday: 9:30am-9:00pm, Friday-Saturday: 9:30am-5:00pm.
