The Orion Library offers free test proctoring services in accordance with our Proctoring Examinations Policy.  Please contact the Adult Services Department at (248) 693-3001 for more information.

Notary Services

The Orion Library offers free Notary services to Orion Township residents and Orion Township Public Library cardholders by appointment with an authorized staff member. Notary Services are available to non-residents for a fee of $10.00 per signature.  Please contact the library at (248) 693-3000 x532 to make an appointment.

What to Bring

  1. Completed documents with no blank spaces requiring completion by the signer. Documents requiring a signature to be notarized must be signed in the presence of the notary. 

  2. A valid photo ID with signature for all persons seeking service (acceptable forms of identification include a current, unexpired: State-issued driver’s license or identification card; United States passport; U.S. Military ID; or other government issued photo identification deemed acceptable by the notary). 

  3. Witness if required.

What to Expect

  1. Notaries in Michigan are subject to all state laws and regulations.

  2. Individuals seeking notary services are responsible for understanding their documents and identifying where signatures are needed.

  3. A notary's duties are limited to performing the notarial act requested, verifying the identity of the indiviudal as required by law, and administering an oath or affirmation when applicable.

  4. Notaries cannot prepare or complete documents for you, assist in completing documents, or give legal advice. Legal help for Michigan residents is available at Michigan Legal Help.

  5. The notary is not responsible for verifying or authenticating the contents, truthfulness, or validity of the document(s) presented.

  6. Those requiring witness signatures must bring their own witnesses. The Orion Township Public Library will not provide witnesses. Witnesses must present valid photo identification and meet any requirements of the document being signed.

  7. The notary must refuse identification that is expired, altered, or insufficient to verify identity.

  8. Library notary staff does not offer electronic / digital notary services.

  9. The notary may refuse to notarize a document at their discretion.

Library Staff Will Not Notarize the Following

  1. Immigration Documents

  2. Real Estate Transactions: Mortgages or other Loans, Closing Documents, etc.

  3. I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification forms

  4. Michigan Vital Records: Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce (these are performed by State and County officials)

  5. Documents written in a language other than English, or documents containing a notarial certificate that is not in English

  6. Documents requiring a Medallion signature guarantee stamp (these are done through a financial institution participating in the Medallion program)

The Board of Trustees will review the notary services policy periodically and reserves the right to amend it at any time.
