Looking to join our Teen Volunteer Team?

Are you a teen seeking a way to earn service hours to fulfill your graduation requirement? Are you part of the National Honor Society or National Junior Honor Society (middle school chapter), and looking for a way to gather some volunteer hours? Well, we would love to have you join our Teen Volunteer Team here at the Orion Township Public Library!
As a volunteer, you will have an opportunity to learn more about the Orion Township Public Library and its collections and possibly even gain new skills and experience. You will make important contributions to library programs and the community and help us promote literacy and education. By your donation of time, energy and talents, you will be helping to enrich not only the library, but your community and those who visit!
The services of volunteers supplement the efforts of our library staff in meeting our goal of quality public service. Volunteers assist the library in making the best use of fiscal resources and contribute to our relationships and partnerships with community groups and organizations. Volunteers are role models for our library patrons and community and work alongside our staff to meet the goals and mission of the organization.
So, who can join our Teen Volunteer Team? Any teen that is fourteen years of age and older is welcome to apply! We have an online application which can be found on our website at orionlibrary.org. Once you complete the application, we review the applications and will be in contact with you if there is availability, to set up a volunteer orientation and get you ready to begin your volunteer journey with us!
What do Teen Volunteers assist with? They help our librarians with events and programs, assist with set-up and prep work, help during programs or events, which may involve working with younger children and also assist with clean-up and tear-down of an event. Teens are instrumental in helping with special craft or Makerspace programs and are a big help with our Friends of the Library book sales. Volunteers enable us to do things we would otherwise be unable to do!

What are some of the attributes we are looking for in Teen Volunteers? We want them to be punctual and show up for the volunteer shifts that you sign up for, have a passion or interest in library services and want to be a positive part of our volunteer team. Good listening skills, a great work ethic and a willingness to lend a helping hand is always important!
In accordance with the Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, the Orion Township Public Library does not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities in the recruitment or placement of volunteers.
